Jon's Bio

A consultant with over a decade of experience in admissions, Jon holds a BA in public health from the University of South Carolina and an MEd in higher education administration from Northeastern University. Jon got started in admissions through his college experience at the University of South Carolina, a PWI, while most of his family attended HBCUs. “Navigating the admissions process and finding community in that environment was both challenging and formative,” Jon shares. That experience, along with working as a student worker in the admissions office, is what drew him to a career in higher education. “I saw firsthand how impactful admissions professionals can be in helping students feel supported and connected,” he explains. “It inspired me to pursue a career where I could provide that same guidance and sense of belonging to others.” In addition to private consulting, Jon currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Admissions at Wake Forest University.
Jon’s favorite part of admissions consulting is helping students gain clarity and confidence in a process that can often feel overwhelming. “It’s especially meaningful to support them as they begin to find themselves—discovering their interests, strengths, and what environments truly fit who they are,” he says. “Being part of that journey as they identify the right college and step into their next chapter is incredibly rewarding.” Throughout his career, Jon has worked across a range of institution types and student populations, including art and design colleges, liberal arts institutions, technical colleges, and urban public universities. He also has experience supporting diverse student populations, including first-generation college students and military-affiliated students, and has worked closely with financial aid advisors to help students better understand their options.
Jon’s own college experience was both rewarding and challenging. “What made the difference was the support I received from various campus offices and the relationships I built along the way. Those experiences not only helped me persist but made my journey truly meaningful. It’s also what drives my passion to provide that same level of support and guidance to students as they navigate their own paths.” As such, Jon’s approach to consulting is rooted in relationship-building, access, and long-term student success. Over the years, he’s developed a strong ability to meet students where they are, understand their individual needs, and guide them through complex decisions with clarity and care. “I’m especially passionate about supporting students who may not always see themselves reflected in certain spaces, helping them not only navigate the admissions process, but also feel a sense of belonging once they arrive,” Jon says. “That commitment continues to shape both my professional work and the impact I hope to make."
One of Jon’s favorite success stories comes from his time at the Savannah College of Art and Design, when he worked with a prospective student. “Mikael grew up in a rural, underrepresented area in southern Louisiana and had a strong passion for becoming a painter, but faced several financial and access-related challenges,” Jon recalls. “I worked closely with Mikael and his support system to guide them through the admissions and financial aid process, making sure they understood every step. I also advocated on his behalf to ensure he received the maximum financial aid package possible, including scholarships and grants, so he could have a sustainable long-term plan.” Mikael ultimately matriculated, and Jon is proud to share that he has since graduated and is doing well. “Being part of that journey—from uncertainty to success—was incredibly meaningful,” Jon reflects.
Outside of his work in admissions, Jon enjoys reading, watching history documentaries, binge-watching YouTube vlogs, volunteering at his church, and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.
