PrepNow Tutor - Mary Jo M.
Mary Jo holds both a bachelor’s degree and a PhD from Marquette University. Her bachelor’s is in biomedical engineering and her PhD is in biomedical engineering and biophysics. During school she was honored with multiple awards and a member of honor societies including Alpha Eta Mu Beta (biomedical engineering honor society), Pi Mu Epsilon (mathematics honor society), and Sigma Xi (scientific research society). After graduation, she worked in medical research in academia for several years before changing careers to teaching. She has always tutored on the side, and in fact, has been a tutor with our sister brand, StudyPoint, since 2010.
In addition to her tutoring, Mary Jo has taught at both the middle school and high school levels for local private schools covering subjects ranging from computer science to robotics to high school biology. She finds it extremely rewarding to help students see their goals realized and reach those “ah-ha” moments.
In describing her teaching style, Mary Jo refers to herself as encouraging and patient. She views each student as a unique individual with equally unique needs. She teaches based on those needs, listening along the way to ensure that each of her students is appropriately accommodated. As a tutor with StudyPoint, she has worked with dozens of students on both test prep and academic subjects.
When she was in school, Mary Jo played was a cheerleader, involved in theatre, and played soccer. She still plays in recreational soccer leagues and enjoys theatre and the arts. Interestingly, she has seen snow in every place she has lived (including Houston, TX!)
