Jithin holds a BS in neuroscience with a minor in chemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas. A recent graduate, his career has consisted of working as a research assistant and peer tutor. He plans to pursue graduate school in chemistry and work toward a career in teaching and research. “I love to research, to work on the edge of what's known, and it's why I like to teach, because you're still improving humanities knowledge, from the bottom up,” Jithin says.
Jithin started tutoring in college after being positively influenced by peer learning programs. “I wanted to return that favor, understanding that there's plenty of people who fall between the cracks of classes and need a new perspective in order to reach their full potential,” Jithin says. As a tutor, Jithin has mainly taught college-level calculus and chemistry but he’s also tutored algebra, trigonometry, and geometry and is an excellent test prep mentor.
"I believe every student has the potential to become a good test-taker—it's a skill that can be taught and a useful one at that,” Jithin says. Jithin’s tutoring style emphasizes active learning and critical thinking. “I don't want to give my students the answer or let them feel like a simple sponge for information,” Jithin says. “I want my students to be active in mapping out problems and taking a genuine crack at a solution.” By encouraging students to attempt solutions independently, he helps his students develop both self-reliance and a deeper understanding of the material. Jithin's ultimate goal is to help students understand the unusual rules of standardized tests and to truly be satisfied with their own performance.
In high school, Jithin participated in debate and played the flute. In college, he worked constantly as a research assistant, making unique carbon frameworks and sorting out chemicals while also tutoring. He loves to read. “Novels are such a fun way to relax and appreciate the world around us, so you'll often find me walking to Richardson library,” Jithin shares. Jithin is EMT certified.
