PrepNow Tutor - Gabrielle C.
A curious tutor who is always learning and researching, Gabrielle is passionate about teaching and coaching. She holds a BS in chemical engineering and an MEng in bioengineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. Gabrielle is a chemical and bioengineer for the Navy and has worked as an analyst for ten years.
Gabrielle started teaching while in college, initially tutoring math and science to Division I college athletes. “My proudest moment tutoring was when one of my ‘when am I going to need math’ student-athletes did well on a math test and said, ‘All the problems were just like the ones you made me practice.’” Throughout her years at the University of Maryland, Gabrielle tutored college students in algebra, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, and physics. She has also tutored high school students in geometry, algebra 1 & 2, trigonometry, calculus A/B, chemistry, biology, and SAT/ACT prep.
“My tutoring style is logical but flexible,” Gabrielle says. “I try to walk students through problems and topics methodically; but if that doesn’t click for students, I pivot to a more visual explanation or to one more tailored to the students’ learning styles.” Gabrielle believes there are many methods to teach something, but the best method depends on the student’s needs.
In high school, Gabrielle played basketball and water polo, and swam. She was also a member of the Mu Alpha Theta math club. In college, she was a mentor to freshmen engineering students and a member of the professional engineering sorority, Alpha Omega Epsilon.
Gabrielle is a big sports fan, especially women's sports, and enjoys playing, coaching, and watching basketball. Her favorite teams are the Maryland Terrapins and the New York Liberty, and she has been to WNBA games in six different cities. “I am very driven and always up for a challenge or adventure,” Gabrielle says.
