PrepNow Tutor - Tripp H.
A creative and analytical thinker, Tripp is driven to find connections to solve difficult problems. They obtained a BS in computer science with a focus in intelligence and embedded systems from Georgia Institute of Technology. They are currently completing their MS in computer science with a focus in computational perception and robotics at Georgia Tech, while preparing to apply to PhD programs with plans to continue their research in machine learning.
Tripp was inspired to start teaching by their grandfather and mother, who were both teachers and shared how their students would grow over time. “This led me to teach data structures and algorithms part time while I was in college, while also tutoring high school students in calculus and robotics,” Tripp shares. “I’ve felt proudest as a teacher when a student I worked with remembered me three years later and told me they felt like they walked away truly knowing the material and could expand upon it.”
Through an experiment-driven approach, Tripp encourages students to investigate the context and ideas behind a subject, helping them develop a deeper understanding of how and why concepts work. “I do not believe that memorization leads to understanding, but rather that it comes through assisted discovery,” Tripp explains. “To do this, I design small worksheets, labs, or curated examples to illustrate how foundational knowledge was discovered and how it applies to any given problem.”
Tripp was involved in band in high school and theater in college. Outside of work and studies, they work on their sewing skills for personal garments and cosplay and dabble in wearable computing, specifically making props for small indie films or professional costumes. They also enjoy reading manga and critiquing it from an artistic lens. Fun fact: “I design computing devices for penguins.”
