PrepNow Tutor - Cynthia T.
A committed life-long lover of learning, Cynthia received her BA in political science from Stanford University and her MBA from Harvard University. For many years, Cynthia worked successfully for Wall Street firms in the financial services industry before starting her own financial planning firm in New York. While she’s transitioned to working primarily in education, Cynthia continues to work with individuals and families in domestic relations negotiations to help them understand their financial situations. Since 2018, Cynthia has also taught in high-needs underserved public high schools. “Teaching has been a source of profound joy and growth, and it has been my privilege to share that perspective with students, clients, and colleagues throughout my life,” she says.
Cynthia first started tutoring in middle school, instructing younger students. “I loved it then and love it now!” She explains that every student must have teachers and tutors who truly enjoy making concepts comprehensible, memorable, and useful. “It is very gratifying to help and encourage older students to gain academic mastery and insights into what they might want to do and become as adults,” Cynthia says. She has taught high school language arts and AVID III and loves offering practical and critical tools for upper high school students. “My style is to meet my students where they are,” Cynthia shares. “Helping students activate their prior knowledge can build connections to new material. I believe that every student can learn and work towards goals. My desire is to help build their skills, technical abilities, knowledge, and confidence to empower them to make significant progress.”
As a student herself, Cynthia worked on her high school’s yearbook and student council, and later her college’s literary magazine. She loves staying closely connected with her family and friends, reading, gardening, exercise, playing the piano, watching stand-up comedy, spiritual development, and volunteering. “Right after college, I worked for one of two preeminent literary agents in Hollywood,” Cynthia shares. “With hundreds of current clients, he represented books and writers to movies and TV. He had even been an agent to dozens of literary giants, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, J.D. Salinger, James M. Cain.”
