PrepNow Tutor - Ruju S.
Throughout her career, Ruju has worked as a tutor, academic coach, intervention specialist, substitute teacher, laboratory technician, and researcher. She earned her BS in biological sciences (pre-health and physiology) from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2016. Since graduating, Ruju has pursued advanced education in dentistry and optometry while building a diverse background in education, healthcare, research, and customer service. "Most recently, I successfully owned and operated my own business, which I later sold, and I am now seeking to return to the education field, where I can apply my experience mentoring, supporting, and helping students achieve their academic goals," she explains.
Ruju has tutored and mentored students of all ages in most topics, including standardized test prep. She has experience in mathematics, science, reading, language arts, and social studies. Ruju's proudest educator moments involved helping struggling students close significant learning gaps and gain confidence in subjects they previously found intimidating. "Watching a student progress from frustration and self-doubt to independently solving problems and believing in their own abilities is incredibly rewarding," she shares.
Ruju's teaching style is engaging, adaptable, and student-centered. She believes that every student can succeed when instruction is tailored to their individual learning needs and strengths. "I focus on building both academic skills and confidence by creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, thinking critically, and learning from mistakes," she says. "My goal is not only to help students improve their grades and test scores, but also to help them become independent learners who believe in their own potential and enjoy the learning process."
As a diligent student, Ruju earned many accolades: she was inducted into a dental honor society, received leadership development awards, and was recognized on the dean's list and president's list. She was also selected for the All-Mississippi Academic Team and Hall of Fame at Holmes Community College and earned a Dental Scholarship.
During high school, Ruju was a clarinetist in the marching band and a member of the color guard. In college, she was involved in leadership, academic, and service organizations, including the Pre-Health Student Association, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. "I also held leadership roles, including Chapter President of Phi Theta Kappa and Secretary and Pre-Dental Chair of the Pre-Health Student Association."
Outside of work, Ruju enjoys activities that allow her to be creative and adventurous. "I have a passion for painting, which gives me an outlet for creativity and self-expression, and I enjoy reading to continuously learn and explore new ideas."
Ruju also loves traveling and experiencing different cultures, whether that means visiting new destinations, trying local foods, or exploring unique attractions. "One of my favorite adventure activities is ziplining because it combines excitement with the opportunity to challenge myself."
