PrepNow Tutor - Ezra K.
Ezra is well-traveled and highly educated, both in academics and in cultural exchange. Formerly, he holds a BA in biology from the University of Minnesota and an MS in biomedical science from Liberty University, which was founded by Jerry Falwell; eventually, Ezra received an MD from the Medical University of Lublin, Poland. As his credentials begin to reveal, Ezra’s lifelong education has also been cultural. First, he was born in Ghana and grew up in Liberia. From there, he immigrated to the United States to earn degrees at universities in Minnesota and Virginia, two very different regions. Finally, he worked throughout Europe on his way to secure his medical degree in Poland.
Along Ezra’s path to the present, he relished helping others achieve their educational goals. First, he tutored roughly 70 students in anatomy while pursuing his graduate and doctoral degrees. Having been bitten by the tutoring bug, Ezra later began to actively seek out others to help. To wit, he has privately tutored math in the areas of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry; he also has standardized testing tutoring experience. In addition, he currently works at the Christian college Bethel University and acts as a faculty liaison between Bethel and Ponce Health Sciences University. In that position, he offers instructional and tutoring support to graduate students in the subjects of anatomy, physiology, immunology, histology, and a number of other scientific fields. In short, after receiving his MD, he has chosen to work as an educator, guide, and counselor for future doctors.
Ezra uses his diverse experiences to guide his tutoring style; he stresses a creative approach that can appeal to a broad array of perspectives. He says, “My tutoring style is problem-based, in that I have my students approach each unique problem by producing novel questions about the material.” He believes that by asking such questions, students more fully understand the difficulty of the problems they face and know, essentially, what they must overcome. This offers students a great deal of ownership of their education.
When not working, Ezra, of course, loves to travel and to continue his informal education. Also, when the mood strikes him, he roams the Midwest United States, playing in volleyball tournaments. In fact, has played for the varsity indoor team at the University of Minnesota and for the beach volleyball team at Liberty University.
