PrepNow Tutor - Ziyaneh G.
An inquisitive learner who enjoys understanding how the world works, Ziyaneh holds a BS in neuroscience from the University of Michigan. She was the recipient of the Regents Merit Scholarship, Michigan Competitive Scholarship, and University Honors. After graduating, Ziyaneh worked as a literacy tutor for a year, helping underprivileged students improve their reading and writing. More recently, Ziyaneh has worked as a research technician in a rare neurological-diseases lab at Baylor College of Medicine.
Ziyaneh started tutoring peers when she was in high school. “I like being able to use my knowledge to encourage others and help them better understand their material,” she says. “I enjoy helping push students to their full potential, especially those who feel discouraged or like they're left behind.” Ziyaneh has worked with students—from the elementary level up to high school—in math, reading, and writing.
“I like to use a multisensory teaching approach when possible,” Ziyaneh says when asked about her teaching style. “The more engaged the student is, and the more learning cues they have, the easier it will be for them to recall and consolidate the new information they've learned.” She also believes that almost anything can be learned with persistence. “Although the learning path may look different for each student, difficult material can be conquered with patience!”
Ziyaneh took piano lessons for about seven years and loves using her skills to learn how to play her favorite instrumental and classical songs. In college, she was in a residence program for female students studying in STEM fields, and she was on the board of that program in her second year. She likes to paint, listen to music, cook, read, and embroider in her free time. “I enjoy creating!”
