"I always knew I wanted to be a teacher," Anna offers. "I enjoy learning and even played 'school' with my sisters every summer." She started teaching straight out of college and through her graduate degree. She has worked with students ranging from 2nd to 12th grade and taught 9th-12th grade English, journalism, and history at a preparatory school in Brooklyn. In 2012, she began instructing ACT and SAT prep at a learning center.
Anna's teaching style is organized, consistent, and clear. "I believe every student is capable, and I also believe that through individualized instruction and modifications if necessary, every student can reach their potential," she explains. Anna uses scaffolding to build students' confidence while introducing more challenging concepts. "I believe students should enjoy learning, and I like to encourage interesting discussions with analytical thinking," she offers. With her special education background, she is an expert at tailoring content to learners of various backgrounds and abilities.
In high school, she worked on her school's literary journal and enjoyed volunteering. She was also inducted into the National Honor Society.
These days, Anna enjoys reading, working out, and spending time with friends and family, who she loves hosting for meals.
Two fun tidbits: Anna grew up in Texas in a Russian family and she used to be a pogo stick champion!
