PrepNow Tutor - Adrian L.

A compassionate and understanding test prep tutor since 2011, Adrian holds a triple bachelor’s degree in applied math, chemistry, and economics from Brown University; he also acquired a master’s degree in physics from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. After graduating from college, Adrian traveled to thirty-four countries on six continents playing and coaching professional squash. As the assistant coach, he led Brown University’s women's and men's squash teams to 12th and 14th national finishes in 2020. “The pandemic inspired me to change career tracks and return to graduate school,” Adrian reflects.
Adrian started tutoring in high school and continued through college and after graduation. He has taught SAT prep, economics, math (calculus, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics) and science (chemistry and physics). “My proudest moment as a tutor was helping a student go from failing to getting a B in his Physics I class,” Adrian shares. “Watching him struggle so much, gain the confidence, and start solving problems even I struggled with was so satisfying and rewarding.”
When tutoring, Adrian tailors his teaching style to meet the students where they are, rather than forcing them to do things his way. “I am skilled at seeing how students learn, and finding a pathway that suits their kinesthetic, visual, or verbal mode of learning,” Adrian says. “After all, the goal is to help the student to achieve their goals, not mine.” Adrian believes that positive feedback is always an important part of lessons, and he ensures his students feel comfortable enough to ask any questions so that he can foster a deeper understanding, not simply rote memorization.
Adrian was a varsity squash player and captain at Brown University. He enjoys practicing yoga and meditation. "I spent twelve years coaching students in squash, learning how to communicate ideas in multiple ways in an emotionally charged stressful environment, eventually culminating in top-twenty finishes for the Varsity D1 Squash Men's and Women's Teams at Brown University,” he shares. Adrian has never lost a game of air hockey.
