PrepNow Tutor - Jazmine H.

A naturally curious and creative person, Jazmine’s passion for teaching comes from her love of learning and wanting to help others discover their own love of learning. She holds a BS in brain and cognitive studies from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; she’s currently pursuing her MS in data science from Hawai'i Pacific University. She has worked as a data professional since 2019 across multiple industries, including consulting, healthcare, streaming, and sports. She is currently a data analyst for a large Spanish-language media production and streaming company.
Jazmine started teaching and tutoring at a very young age—she was still in primary school! “From there, I took every opportunity to tutor, whether it was teaching reading to second-grade students or doing finals reviews for freshmen in calculus,” Jazmine says. Her proudest moment as a teacher was when she was a TA for a summer course for incoming MIT freshmen. Jazmine recalls, “My students were not excited about reading Dr. King's Letter From a Birmingham Jail; but through close reads and literary analysis, the students came to understand why I love the text so much and even told me later that this was the most engaged they had ever been with reading a text, and that they actually looked forward to reading more.” Jazmine’s teaching experience is diverse. In addition to one-on-one test prep and subject tutoring, she has taught four years of summer communications courses for incoming MIT freshmen through MIT Interphase EDGE, worked as a middle school teaching assistant and a high school math teacher, and led numerous corporate training sessions.
Jazmine’s teaching style is rooted in understanding what the student already knows and treating that as a strong foundation. “I find that students learn better when they feel comfortable enough to make mistakes and admit when they do not know things,” Jazmine says. “So I aim to be very personable and understanding in my approach as my main goal is always to make sure the student understands the content and can ask questions when needed.” Jazmine’s educational philosophy is that not all material is relatable; as such, she works on relating it to concepts in everyday life and providing the reasoning for why something needs to be learned; and she has found that this duo is a very powerful start to the learning journey. “I’m particularly excited to tutor test prep as I understand the pressure and expectations students have going into these exams, and I want to help them feel as prepared as possible,” Jazmine says. “I thoroughly enjoy teaching and consider it both an honor and a rewarding challenge to help students excel and feel more confident in their test-taking abilities.”
In high school, Jazmine was ranked in the top 10 GPAs for her high school graduating class of 700+ students, played basketball, participated in track and field, and was in Chamber Choir and Jazz Choir. In college, she played rugby.
Currently, Jazmine loves playing video games and cooking. And recently she’s been doing more painting, sculpting, and sewing. “When I was younger, I would use musical theater as a way to learn new languages and practice pronunciation,” Jazmine shares. “I know songs from Les Mis and Hunchback of Notre Dame in several languages.”
