PrepNow Tutor - Jack B.

A curious and attentive tutor, Jonathan loves listening to his students and especially learning from them. He holds a BA magna cum laude in English from Webster University and has taught music at the School of Rock, giving individual and group lessons.
“I started tutoring because of the great experiences I’ve had with teachers and tutors. They showed me how important that figure in a life can be,” Jonathan says. In college, Jonathan worked at the academic resource center and helped students with their research papers and creative writing. “My favorite moments as an instructor are whenever I get to watch students come out of their shells,” he shares. “I also love the moments when a student really gets something they didn’t before. The moments where after a session you know you really helped them learn something new.”
Jonathan describes his teaching style as largely based on listening with a kind and firm approach. “Both aspects are equally important,” Johnathan says. “The students need to feel comfortable with you, but they also have to know we’re working together to achieve a goal—and we both have to work at it.” Jonathan prioritizes getting to know his students as much as he can before and during sessions. “I think growing an appropriate, good-natured personal relationship is key to being a successful teacher,” he explains, adding that he also believes that patience is particularly key when tutoring test prep.
As a student, Jonathan participated in the chess club, French club, and tennis team. He’s been playing in bands since he was twelve and continues to tour the country with his bands. “I'm originally from St. Louis, but recently moved to Chicago to follow music,” Jonathan says.
