PrepNow Tutor - Allison R.
Allison has several years of experience teaching special education in the classroom, particularly 10th-grade English; she has also taught algebra I & II, geometry, biology, and environmental science for special education learners. Her experience as an education case manager, an SEL teacher, and a registered behavior technician (for DCD/ASD students) gave her valuable insight into the best teaching practices to support and honor students’ unique journeys in and out of the classroom.
In 2024, she graduated with an MA in special education from Mount St. Joseph University; she also holds a BA in pre-law from Miami University.
Her first foray into teaching led her to become a mentor for students looking for summer jobs. “These students, all of whom were there for their first experience in a workplace, and for some, their first experience outside of school, apart from their parents,” she recounts. The experience showed her the lasting impact her leadership and communication skills could have on young people. “I will always value moments where students find trust and safety in me as a consistent adult in their lives,” she adds.
Allison’s approach is student-centered and relationship-driven. “I focus on building strong rapport with students and take the time to understand what motivates them individually,” she explains. She’s adept at crafting engaging lessons to hook even the most reluctant or disengaged learners. “By concentrating on honoring students' individual backgrounds, strengths, and experiences, I can create a supportive environment that fosters student growth and success.”
Outside of work, Allison is an avid crafter, currently focusing on sewing and crochet projects. She loves camping, biking, and testing new recipes for her partner and friends. Wild pet fact: she has three cats, a bearded dragon, and a pink-toed tarantula!
