PrepNow Tutor - Domani S.
Domani has tutored K-12 math and English as well as college-level math and physics. Passionate about math, physics, art, and writing, she's adept at connecting course materials with students' interests. Domani graduated in December 2025 from California Institute of Technology, where she obtained a BS in physics. As of Winter 2026, she is taking a gap before pursuing a PhD in theoretical cosmology and particle astrophysics.
During high school, Domani began tutoring her peers in math, science, and English; she also worked as a math tutor at the local library. During this time, she discovered she had a knack for teaching, especially finding interesting and visual ways to present information. Since then, she has held several tutoring roles: private tutor (online and in-person) in math, physics, English, and test prep; K-12 math tutor at a math learning center; and a peer tutor at Caltech for math and physics classes. She has covered the following math topics and courses: elementary math and foundations, arithmetic, algebra 1 & 2, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, geometry, and SAT math.
Her proudest tutoring moment involved working with a middle school English student over the summer. Years later, the student's mother disclosed that her daughter was taking Honors English in high school because of that summer with Domani. "That made me so happy because I had succeeded at one of my main tutoring goals: to emphasize, encourage, and promote the fun, beauty, and enjoyment of the different subjects I teach, and of learning in general."
Domani's teaching approach is concept-focused and highly visual. She believes education should focus on collaboration as well as catering to an individual student's preferred learning method. "I teach from a foundations-up method, starting with key concepts and ideas and guiding the student to see how the answer or operation arises naturally," she explains. She also does not like to emphasize "rules" or memorizing unless truly necessary. "I believe memorization should come naturally from practice and internally understanding the underlying mechanisms, rather than rote memorization," she says. Since she loves art and drawing, Domani often employs imagery to support and demonstrate ideas, helping students integrate concepts into various contexts and ultimately fostering long-term learning.
A decorated student, Domani acquired several accolades and titles: the Mary A. Earl McKinney Prize in Literature at Caltech, which supported proficiency in writing; a QuestBridge Scholar, which involved a four-year scholarship to a top college; and a National Merit Commended Student. Her undergraduate research also earned her additional awards.
In high school, Domani was part of the Research Club, National Honor Society, Speech and Debate team, soccer team, math team, and orchestra. In college, she was in the Physics Club and Black Student Union; she was also on the student advisory board for the Physics, Math, and Astrophysics Department.
Currently, Domani enjoys yoga, drawing, reading fantasy and science fiction novels, writing stories and poetry, and reading about math and physics. "I love Halloween, Marvel, coffee, Brandon Sanderson's books, spending time with family/friends, and Parks & Rec," she adds. A nature lover, she cherishes the beach, the ocean, and the mountains. Her favorite animals are frogs (specifically bushveld rain frogs), birds, and rats. Fun fact: Domani has 8 tattoos and designed most of them herself!
