Anne's Bio

A kind and funny tutor, Anne loves learning and is endlessly curious about new things. She holds three degrees: a BS in human development and family studies from Cornell University; an EdM in counseling and consulting psychology from Harvard University; and a PhD in applied developmental psychology from Tufts University. For two years after earning her EdM, Anne worked in the field of early intervention before going back to school for her doctorate. After earning her doctorate, she entered the field of human services program evaluation, where she served for twenty years. In 2016, Anne changed careers to be a special educator and spent nine years in special education. In addition to tutoring test prep, she now works as a tutor at a local college and as an adult autism coach.

"When I was getting my teaching license, I enjoyed the one-on-one work I did with students during academic support, and they reflected to me that they wished they could have more time with me,” Anne recalls when asked about what led her to start tutoring. “Other special educators suggested that I try tutoring on my own, and I decided to try it out.” One of Anne’s proudest moments was when one of her students, who had struggled a great deal in high school, graduated and went on to the college of her choice, and told Anne that she could not have gotten there without Anne's support.
Since 2016, Anne has been regularly tutoring students in elementary school through high school. She has helped elementary students with reading and math and has worked with high school students in most subjects, including math, memorization, and study skills. “I am a calm and caring tutor and use my sense of humor to connect with students,” Anne says. “I try to find a good point of entry to help with students' difficulty in a particular subject and come from a place of believing that mistakes are an opportunity to learn and that everyone has the ability to learn anything.”
In high school, Anne was very active in student government and participated in chorus and band. In college, she was a member of a sorority and an admissions ambassador, and was on the dean's list several times.

These days, Anne loves to read, is an amateur naturalist, and enjoys puzzles and games. “I have a crafty side but don't have enough time to indulge it,” Anne shares. “I am especially taken with nature and the outdoors and love to be in the woods and on the beach with my dogs.” Anne has two dogs and two cats.
