PrepNow Tutor - Ariel A.
“I love tutoring,” Ariel says. “When students understand something new, it is the best feeling in the world.” Ariel holds a BS in industrial engineering from the University of Houston and an MS in engineering management from Rice University. After earning her degrees, Ariel worked as an engineer for over five years. She now tutors test prep and consults as an engineer.
A professional tutor since 2018, Ariel started tutoring in high school. “I enjoy helping students build confidence in subjects that once felt difficult or frustrating to them,” she says. “I’ve always liked explaining concepts in a way that feels easier to understand, and I find it rewarding to see students improve academically and gain confidence in themselves.” Throughout her career, Ariel has tutored math, science, reading comprehension, study skills, and test prep. She’s worked with students across different grade levels and also has experience helping students improve overall academic performance and study habits.
Ariel is an excellent test prep tutor because she focuses not only on the material itself, but also on strategy, confidence, and problem-solving skills. “My background in engineering and analytics helps me break down difficult concepts into manageable steps,” she shares. “I’m excited to tutor test prep specifically because strong scores can open doors for students academically, and I enjoy helping them reach goals they may not have thought were possible.”
An energetic and adaptable tutor, Ariel’s favorite part about teaching is seeing students become more confident and independent. “It’s rewarding when a student who once struggled begins participating more, solving problems on their own, and feeling proud of their progress,” Ariel reflects. “I also enjoy building supportive relationships with students and creating a positive learning environment.” Ariel brings positive energy into sessions to keep students engaged and motivated, which she believes is especially important in subjects or test prep areas that can feel stressful or overwhelming. “I adjust my approach based on each student’s learning style and break concepts down step-by-step in a way that feels approachable and supportive while still challenging students to grow.”
As a student, Ariel was honored for her academic excellence and inducted into the National Society of Black Engineers. She played soccer and ran track. She enjoys making music, cooking, hosting, and practicing yoga. Ariel worked for United Airlines and Hitachi Energy as an engineer. “I am a go-getter and hard worker,” Ariel says. “I love to laugh and have fun, but can focus in when needed.”
