PrepNow Tutor - Sean W.
A hardworking and persevering tutor, Sean has extensive test-taking and tutoring experience. He holds a BS magna cum laude in biology from New York University Shanghai. A recent graduate, Sean is currently tutoring while continuing his education journey. Since 2024, Sean has been certified by the College Reading and Learning Association's ITTPC as a level 1 tutor.
"I started tutoring because I really liked a course in college and felt like there was more to learn from that class, so I tutored as a way to 'stay in the class' for longer,” Sean shares. He notes that his proudest moment as a tutor so far was when a former student emailed Sean about the student's acceptance into the law school of his dreams. Throughout his years of tutoring, Sean has taught biology, organic chemistry, programming, and test prep, including the law school admissions tests; he worked with students privately, at learning centers, and at his campus’s academic resource center.
Sean takes a diagnostic, student-centered approach to tutoring. He believes that the question a student asks is often a symptom of a deeper misunderstanding, so he focuses on uncovering the underlying issue rather than simply addressing the immediate problem. “My biggest tutoring strength is being able to find a student’s 'real' problems in understanding,” Sean says. Sean also recognizes the importance of the student enjoying the learning process and being validated. As such, he places an emphasis on patience, offering kind words, and making his students feel seen. By combining careful problem-solving with a positive and affirming learning environment, he helps students build both confidence and lasting understanding.
In high school, Sean completed volunteer work and was part of his college chess club. In college, he was heavily involved in the biology lab. He enjoys playing chess, the guitar and piano, and board games with friends.
