PrepNow Tutor - Nicholas G.
Nicholas is an educator with ambitions to pursue further career development in local government and in the corporate sector. He holds a BA in English with minors in rhetoric and philosophy from Wabash College and an MA in education from Loyola University Chicago. He also holds endorsements in English as a Second Language (ESL) and as a learning behavioral specialist. His teaching career began in 2021 when he served as a high school special education paraprofessional and as a football and wrestling coach. Next, after taking the time to complete his master’s degree, Nicholas returned to the classroom as an ESL instructor and then moved on to become a mainstream English instructor and coach of the girls’ wrestling team.
Nicholas’s instructional philosophy is built upon helping students make connections between new or challenging material and topics that the students already know. To get things started, Nicholas often highlights elements or concepts connected to an area of study that the student is familiar with. By encouraging students to build on these ideas, he assures that the students have a solid foundation and a level of confidence they may not otherwise possess. He says, “My philosophy is that every student can learn so long as they have confidence in and enjoy the process. Therefore, by stringing together ideas in a strategic target area, students build lasting knowledge and understanding.”
As suggested by his enthusiasm for coaching, Nicholas has always enjoyed sports. In fact, he was a three-sport high school athlete in high school, playing football, wrestling, and water polo. He was also recruited to play football at Wabash College, where he blocked defenders as part of the offensive line. Now, he enjoys helping others to meet their sporting goals and relishes what he calls the "magic" that comes when an athlete breaks through for the first time. All this said, Nicholas equally likes some quiet time with a good book, having most recently taken on titles like Project Hail Mary and Remarkably Bright Creatures.
