William is a research assistant in two physics labs and plans to complete a doctoral degree in physics. He currently holds a BA in mathematics & physics from Boston University. After tutoring fellow math students in high school, which he thoroughly enjoyed, William sought out a role with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, serving for years as a mentor for an elementary student. Then, while he was a student at Boston University, he worked as a teaching assistant for various physics courses, offering tutelage to students of all classes, from freshmen to seniors. He is eager to continue his instructional path at StudyPoint as he continues his own educational journey.
William describes his teaching style as primarily adaptive. He says, “I pride myself on quickly identifying an approach that works best for each student: I always begin by assessing what a student already understands and then build from that foundation, adjusting my explanations and strategies as needed.” He believes that by working in this way with each student, he is helping to provide students with a conceptual framework that can be applied independently as new challenges arise. In this way, then, he helps enable students to apply their knowledge to myriad situations, something he sees as a key in education and in life in general.
William has always been a bit of an adventurous soul, as evidenced by two scars on his head - one from trying to fly when he was two and the other from playing ‘the floor is lava’ with his cousin when he was three. Upon learning early on that he was not meant for flight and that balancing games are best played away from fireplaces, William sought adventure in other forms. In high school, he played soccer and baseball and was part of the jazz band. These days, he still enjoys soccer and playing the sax, but he is as likely to be reading a new book in his favorite genres, sci-fi and fantasy, or finding a great new place to eat his favorite food, tacos.
