PrepNow Tutor - Joseph B.
An engineer and educator, Joseph has over 4 years of experience tutoring college-level math and over 2 years of experience working with English language learners. His aerospace and mechanical engineering background and general proficiency in STEM topics allow him to connect complex material with students’ interests and real-world applications. He is trilingual in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
Joseph earned a BS in aerospace engineering with minors in mathematics and mechanical engineering from New Mexico State University, where he tutored math both at the campus learning center and privately. “A highlight was seeing students understand math and say it is easy!”
After graduating, he moved to Patuxent River, Maryland, where he worked at Naval Air Systems Command as a propulsion engineer for nearly 7 years. His first year, he offered private tutoring. Joseph later moved to Jordan for two years to teach English to non-native speakers and learn Arabic himself. He currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas, where he has worked as a propulsion integration engineer at Bell Textron.
Joseph’s practiced approach is geared toward modeling and confidence-building. “I try to make it look easy and give students confidence by reinforcing concepts and by praising students when they do well,” he explains. A high achiever himself, he holds students to a standard that both challenges and promotes self-assurance and independence. His personable nature allows him to form authentic relationships with students, ultimately fostering a fun, relaxed learning environment.
In high school, Joseph was part of JROTC and ran cross-country. His academic performance earned him a spot on the dean’s list and, among other awards, a full-ride scholarship.
Outside of work, he loves reading, spending time with his wife, watching anime, playing guitar, and helping out at church. “I was a youth pastor for 7 months from November 2024 to May 2025, working with students from 6th grade to 12th grade,” he notes. He’s also an avid gym rat and runner. “Every year, my goal is to train for a 5k race and get under 25 minutes,” he adds.
Fun aeronautic fact: Joseph interned at NASA for a semester.
