Shannon's Bio

Passionate and adaptable, Shannon has dedicated much time and professional development to the education field. Shannon's BA is in psychology with a minor in aerospace engineering and she graduated from the University of North Texas with her MEd with a focus in educational psychology. Professionally, Shannon has dedicated herself to test prep and has worked in nearly all areas of tutoring,

Shannon began tutoring in college and after graduating, she realized that tutoring was her passion. She has been the coordinator of a test prep community, taught SAT and ACT classes, and developed the curriculum for test prep courses. Alongside ACT and SAT test prep work, Shannon has tutored core skills for Prek-12th and college students. She’s also done test prep for the ISEE and OLSAT. While test prep tutoring is her main passion, she has taught French as an elective and psychology and sociology courses.

Shannon's teaching style is demonstrative. During tutorials, she discusses the content alongside guided examples to establish for students what needs to be accomplished per lesson. To bolster active learning and encourage full comprehension, Shannon utilizes examples and activities. She has discovered these methods often lead to students began able to achieve independent study. After having tutored various subjects, grade levels, and tests, Shannon has learned that her style must be fluid to accommodate each student and learning style. “This philosophy mixed with the student's effective method of learning (kinesthetic, visual, auditory, etc.) is how I structure my sessions and lesson plans,” she explains.

In her professional tutoring career, one of Shannon’s most notable accomplishments is assisting with a published research study that examined the correlation between scores on the SAT essay and student lexicon. She has also helped to complete the original SAT and ACT course curriculum comprised of an instructor course book and a student workbook for test prep. Her dedication to other’s success in academia is no surprise when considering her own education successes. She graduated University of North Texas Magna Cum Laude, was in the Delta Epsilon Iota Honor Society for academic excellence, made the Dean's List every semester, and received the Academic Honors award each semester from Delta Zeta Sorority.

With more time to spend at home, Shannon enjoys streaming new shows. When curling up with a good book, she prefers professional development or non-fiction. She’s also fond of podcasts and engaging with live online events and workshops.
