PrepNow Tutor - Daria J.
A dedicated instructional design and corporate training professional, Daria holds a BA in economics from Ohio State University and an MBA in marketing from Miami University in Ohio. She started her career as a customer service representative for GE Capital and an investment representative at Fidelity Investments before transitioning into marketing research and business intelligence. However, Daria ultimately realized her professional calling was in instructional design and training, which she’s been doing alongside test prep tutoring for over ten years.
Daria started tutoring in 2002 at a premier test prep company, initially teaching the PSAT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, and Praxis English. In the years since, she’s also tutored the ACT, ASVAB for the military, and the Catholic High School Test Prep; additionally she has taught high school and math and science for a credit recovery charter school. “My best moments are watching a fundamental math concept finally ‘click’ for my students,” Daria shares, explaining that she’s passionate about tutoring because of the flexibility to offer a more personalized approach than classroom teachers can provide.
“My teaching and tutoring style is that of a facilitator,” Daria says. “I find ways to communicate complex concepts in everyday terms and guide students through quantitative reasoning. I think that once a student understands how they learn—verbal, visual, auditory, tactile/kinesthetic—they have the advantage when synthesizing and retaining new information.”
As a student, Daria received the Ohio State President's Leadership Award, was the NPHC Sorority Scholar of the Year, and was on the dean's list. She’s held leadership positions in her local chapters with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and used to play softball and enjoy Tai Chi and Tang Soo Do.
Daria has two kids and enjoys quality family time, reading, writing novellas, traveling, and watching anime. “My dream vacation would be a trip to Ghana and Mali, Kyoto and Tokyo, Beijing, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands,” Daria says.
