Stanley's Bio

A dependable, patient, and flexible tutor since 2019, Stanley enjoys supporting students through their challenges, whether that means solving a difficult calculus problem, explaining a complicated concept in simple terms, or helping build confidence. “I'm always open to learning new things and improving myself, as I believe life is a continuous learning experience!” Stanley holds a BS in computer science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and is currently exploring opportunities in software development while tutoring.

Stanley started tutoring in high school through a summer math enrichment program. He went on to work as a teacher’s assistant for a 10th-grade Math 2 class as a senior and as a peer tutor at UMass Amherst’s Learning Resource Center through college, teaching programming, calculus, statistics, and physics. “My proudest moment as a tutor happened at UMass Amherst when a student I had tutored in a previous semester told me how my explanations helped her perform well on her final exam the previous semester,” Stanley shares. “That moment showed me that my work was making a real long-term difference and helping students reach their academic goals.”

Stanley’s teaching approach is flexible and student-centered. “My tutoring style comes from the belief that every student learns differently; some students need visuals, some learn better by practicing, and others benefit from talking through their reasoning,” Stanley explains. “Because of this, I try to adapt my tutoring style to each student’s needs instead of using the same approach for everyone.”

In high school, Stanley participated in the cross-country team. In college, he was on the Dean's List Honors for eight semesters. Outside of work, he enjoys working on personal coding projects because it allows him to apply his knowledge to build something useful. He also enjoys playing strategy board games, such as Splendor and Avalon. “I’ve ranked #2 in solo mode for the North America server in PUBG Mobile.”
